Abstract:

The article contains an analysis of the doctrinal-historical stages of codification of international law, as well as activities in this area of public organizations. The author substantiated the conclusion that at the practical level the codification of international law is associated with resonant events of international relations, the results of which were the most important international acts: the Westphalian treatise of 1648, the acts of the Vienna Congress of 1814-1815, the Treaty of Versailles of 1919. At the level of intergovernmental organizations, through the prism of codification, the article describes the role of the Committee of Experts for the progressive codification of international law of the League of Nations and the International Law Commission at the UN General Assembly. The final conclusion: the history of the codification of international law testified to the results of the main events of international life, was a legal response to armed conflicts, an impulse to formulate the basic tenets of the world order, a guideline for lawyers of all countries.
