International Steam Regulation of the Earth´s poles: Arctic and Antarctica
Iglin Alexey Vladimirovich 1

1. Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration

Abstract:

The North and South Poles of the Globe need in-depth study and legal regulation, so the article draws attention to the lack of a comprehensive act on the status of the Arctic, as well as to the peculiarities of the application of the Antarctic Treaty of 1959. The author concludes: these territories do not allow the claims of states bordering the Arctic and Antarctica to be approved as international (they defend the interests of each of their national polar policies). To develop legal regulation tools acceptable to all is a task for the future. For sure, the impetus for this will be the globalization of the security spheres. And the template is the norms of space law rather than maritime law.

Keywords: Arctic, Antarctica, nuclear-free zone, continental shelf, territorial claims, hydrocarbon and resources, international control
