Abstract:
The article deals with a comprehensive analysis of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights: the elaboration and adoption, the status of its provisions in modern international law, the application of courts, and the modern challenges to the Declaration. The author concludes that the adoption of the Declaration in 1948 deservedly became an event in world politics and international law, which to this day has enormous political and moral significance. The Declaration remains the first universal instrument in history to proclaim a list of fundamental human rights and symbolizes unity in the fragmentation, regionalization and competition of human rights systems. Nevertheless, discussions continue on the validity and universality of the Act.
