The article emphasizes that the international community has committed itself to taking measures to address the world drug problem (illicit cultivation, production, manufacture, sale, demand, traffic and distribution of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, including amphetamine-type stimulants and precursors, as well as related criminal activities). The mechanisms of the United Nations, as well as the efforts of regional organizations to eliminate the presence and consumption of illicit narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in order to ensure the health and well-being of mankind, and to share best practices in the field of demand and supply reduction, were analysed. The author concludes that it is appropriate to speak of a comprehensive approach by the world community to the problem of drug addiction.
